Thank you for such a positive forum in which I along with the Town Council and Staff can keep our citizens informed about what is happening in and around our town. The first thing I want to do is let our citizens know just how much we appreciate their understanding and patience during the past few weeks while we have been handling some major water leaks. There are many reasons for the problems we are having right now; however, of more importantce is that we are addressing each problem as it happens. If you would like a particular question answered, please call me at 383-2993 or 383-2460 or ask here and I will try to answer you. There will continue to be some interruptions in your service for the next few days while we complete repairs. Contractors have been hired to replace water line in several areas in the near future. If you live in a community where lines often break, those areas will be looked at first. Maple avenue is first on our list. Tomorrow the back-hoe will be digging up the immediate leak we have now on that hill and we will schedule a time to come back to replace lines in that area. The road will have to be closed for a couple of hours while we fix the leak. Please let your neighbors know. Staff will try to call the residents in the morning to make sure they get their cars off the hill if theyneed to get out before repairs are complete. Thank you, Mayor Eva Sue Rash

Thank you for the information. I think this is also a good idea. Many times all we have to go on is hear say and sometimes that can get twisted. I hope some of the churches and clubs use this to keep us posted as to thing that are happening in the community

You are right citizen. I understand how upsetting it is to be without water since I too have been in an area that has suffered without water since these problems started. Our Contractors and employees have worked long hours to address the leaks we have encountere. We have very old water lines dating back to the 60's and it seems that every weak area blew this week. I think last count was 13 DIFFERENT leaks that have been fixed in the past few days. We hope to replace many of the lines within the next few months. We have been given permission to do as many line replacements as we can with much of the remaining Small City Block Grant Money. We are also ordering a large supply of replacement parts to keep on hand to cut down on delays. This won't solve all of our problems; however it will cut down on many of them. As of Sunday at 5:00 we believe everyone except 4 customers are back in water. We hope to have water service restored to three of those residents shortly. IF anyone else is out of water that we may not be aware of please contact me at 383-2460 so we can check your meter and lines. Don't forget the water may be discolored for awhile so watch for this if you are washing light clothers. If your water has been off for 24 hours continously, please boil the water for one full minute for personal use. This is only a precaution until we can be sure all lines have the adequate amount of chlorine in them. Thank you once again for your assistance and your patience! God Bless, Mayor Eva Sue Rash

My husband worked for many years with the gas company and they had the same problems. When the lines were old every time they repaired one section the pressure would raise and blow out another. I know it has been hard on a lot of people, myself included to go without water. But i know that everyone is trying to do their best.
I saw this information on the topix and i also think the it is a good way for people to know what is happening in the community. My husband plays gospel music and i am going to write here where they will be playing so people can come listen if they want to.
Keep up the good work and don't let a few people get in your crawl. There are many more who are thankful of the job our public servants do than there are who are not thankful.
I found that this forum will check your spelling. lord I need that

We are still having some problems with our water system. There may be interruptions in your service so please keep some water on hand. We are addressing each problem as fast as we can. It is right now 9:45 p.m. and the employees are still working on the problems we have. The water went off a few minutes ago due to a problem at the plant caused by a leak in the mobile home park at the bottom of Elkhorn Mountain. The one leak at the mobile home park can not be fixed at this time until we talk to West Virginia Housing and their contractor due to a construction problem when they put the mobile homes in. We have to cut that area off so everyone else can have water. Those residents should contact Town Hall so we can make arrangements to help them. We put all other residents back on the Jenkinjones source so they will be able to have water tonight. We will be working on the water line extension to the new source tomorrow if at all possible. Please conserve your water. Washing cars, using pressure washers, ect. will cause too much of a loss of water at this time. Thank you and please know we are working to fix these problems.

It is Saturday night and we just found a big leak in Anawalt, so the water will have to be turned off at the intersection in Anawalt through Spencer Curvce, in order to fix it. Catch some water in case it can't be fixed tonight. Sorry for the inconvience.

The Town of Anawalt is back on the Jenkinjones water and we thought this would cut down on some of the pressure problems; however, we continue to find additional leaks. We will be replaceing as much line as possible with Small Cities Block Grant Money. This will take time and until then, we will continue to address each problem as fast as we can. Only those who have been without water for a continous 24 hour period is on the boil water advisory. Thank you for your continued understanding and support. Mayor Eva

Mayor. I am glad to see you taking advantage of the forum to communicate with the people. I think it demonstrates to the citizens that are really working to improve the community that you are part of the solution and not part of the problem. Keep up the good work.

Mayor. I am glad to see you taking advantage of the forum to communicate with the people. I think it demonstrates to the citizens that are really working to improve the community that you are part of the solution and not part of the problem. Keep up the good work. Thank you. I understand how upsetting this problem has been for everyone and want to assure the citizens that our employees have worked hard to get each and every leak fixed as fast as possible. We have discovered that someone has tampered with valves and fire hydrants which has caused some of our problems. If valves and hydrants are turned on or off too fast, it will cause pressure problems which results in line breaks. Proper authorities have been contacted. We are asking citizens in Anawalt and in the surrounding communities to report anyone you see turning on or off a valve or hydrant. If you should see water flowing from a hydrant for more than a short period of time, please call 383-2993 or 383-2460 asap. Once again Thank you everyone for your assistance, your prayers, your support, and your suggestions. Mayor Eva Sue Rash

I left a message here earlier but something must have happened since it didn't show up.
As some of you know by now, we are still having water problems. Late yesterday, we were called about a leak just down from Joe's Bar. It was a service line and we decided to let it run as long as possible so the school could stay open. We called our contractor and after digging the line up, the employees fixed it. Another leak developed almost immediately just below the Pump House. That one was fixed this evening and then a main line broke. The guys plan to start at 7:00 in the morning in order to keep interuptions to the school at a minimum. I have been in touch with the Board today and they will have water available tomorrow morning so they can have school. There is water available in some areas so if you are in need of water in the morning, bring your containers to town hall. If you are homebound call and we will see what we can do to get water to you.
We hope to have the new Jenkinjones source open within a few days and the gravity flow water should cut down on the pressure problems we are experiencing. We are discussing this problem with our contractors and engineers in order to find a solution to keep it from happening again.
We have been working for several years to upgrade our water system and much has been accomplished. Our two existing water sources had to be upgraded first, then we worked on developing the third source. We can now concentrate on replaceing as many water lines as possible with our remaining grant money. We wanted to use some of the grant money to purchase a back-hoe to cut down on the expenses; however, our request was denied. There are strict rules that have to be followed by funding sources. One of those rules is that Small Cities Block Grant Money can not be used to purchase equipment; therefore we have to continue to wait on the availability of our contractors when repairing or replacing water lines. We are sorry for the inconvience this causes. Grant draw downs have a process that we must go through in order to use the money. It is a slow process. Anyone who would like to find out more about the SCBG should call and come to town hall . We also go over these projects at our council meetings. We hope to have this problem resolved soon. In the meantime, please call if you see anyone tampering with the valves or hydrants. Thank you once again.
